Teaching
It is important for students to learn and master multiple mediums and approaches to criticism – within and outside of classroom walls – to gain an appreciation for diverse perspectives of the world around them. The majority of my courses examine Black experiences in America, with an emphasis on American popular culture and hip hop culture. The inspiration behind my pedagogy is southern hip hop. Southern hip hop is loud, self-affirming, experimental, and probing. I bring these aesthetics with me into the classroom: my students will tell you our class discussions are loud, intense, and filled with laughter, often floating into the hallway and luring in curious onlookers.
